Pratinav Anil

Pratinav Anil is a Lecturer in History at St Edmund Hall, University of Oxford, and author of two bleak assessments of postcolonial Indian history. India’s First Dictatorship (2020), co-authored with Christophe Jaffrelot, was published to some acclaim by Hurst in Britain, OUP in the US, and HarperCollins in India, making the Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay shortlist and winning the Karwaan Prize. Another India (2023), based on his doctoral research at Oxford, is his second book. Quite apart from monographs, he enjoys writing for the popular press. By-lines include the Times, Guardian, TLS, History Today, and the Spectator. He has, among other things, briefly apprenticed as a business consultant in Oxford and as a farmhand in the Val-d’Oise.
