James is a practicing disaster management consultant and Adjunct Professor at Fordham University's Institute of International Humanitarian Affairs. Over the past 25 years he has worked on -- and in -- most of the world's worst natural disasters, protracted crises and conflicts. A former senior UN official with WHO and UNICEF, James was also Global Emergencies Director for one of the world's largest NGOs, Care International. He has also authored books on 'Survival in the Field', 'The Origins of Ethnic Cleansing', 'The Secret Wisdom of Salmon' and 'The History of the ATM'. When not advising governments, aid agencies and private companies on crisis response and risk reduction, he can either be found teaching online courses, curating his two websites (The Aid Workers Union + The ATM Appreciation Society) or sailing off Scotland's East coast.
