Lynne Hanson

There has been a great deal of talk about breast cancer, but as a clothing designer and artist, Lynne Hanson brings an unusual, visual perspective to breast cancer, mastectomies, reconstruction, implants, prosthetics and the female body image. Facing these complex issues herself, she found virtually no support from the medical community. With that in mind, Do I Need Boobs With This Dress? is meant to start a conversation that is frank and honest and sometimes humorous.

Lynne was raised in the Maryland horse country just outside of Washington DC, where her art was inspired by the horse’s elegant form. As an adult, she was also drawn to study of the feminine form and clothing design. After studying at Parsons School of Design, and receiving a post-graduate degree from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, Lynne designed clothing for major companies including Pendleton Woolen Mills, White Stag Active Sports, and her own independent clothing lines.

Her sculptures and paintings combine the elegance, beauty and distortion of the human and equine form. Her current works approach these themes using wood, metal, wax, and vintage seed beads, resulting in forms that simultaneously suggest pixilation and nature, resulting in unique textile backgrounds and unusual tactile combinations. Lynne has exhibited internationally in galleries and distinguished juried shows.

Her art, including the sculpture on the cover of Do I Need Boobs With This Dress?, can be seen at www.lynnehansonart.com.

An east coast girl by birth and a west coast woman by choice, Lynne and her family worked her way up the Pacific Coast and through the Rocky Mountains before she found the perfect solution: Now she divides her time between Washington, DC and Sun Valley, Idaho.
