Christopher M. Smith is a writer and advocate focused on the human experience of end-of-life care. His work explores how physical environments shape comfort, dignity, and emotional well-being for individuals and families navigating hospice.

Drawing from interdisciplinary research across healthcare, architecture, and environmental psychology, Smith examines how thoughtful design can transform hospice residences into spaces of peace, connection, and meaning. His writing challenges conventional approaches to clinical environments and calls for a more compassionate, human-centered model of care.

His essays have been published in STAT First Opinion, Pulse Voices, and through The Conversation Project. He is the author of Designing Compassion in Hospice Care: The Quiet Room, published by Oxford University Press.
