Robert Reiss

Robert Reiss was ordained into the ministry of the Church of England in 1969. After a curacy in London he became Chaplain of Trinity College, Cambridge (his old College) in 1973. In 1978 he moved to work for the Advisory Council for the Church's Ministry eventually becoming Senior Selection Secretary responsible for the organisation of the selection system for candidates for ordained ministry. In 1985 he was appointed Team Rector of Grantham in Lincoln Diocese, and in 1996 became Archdeacon of Surrey in Guildford Diocese. He was appointed Canon Treasurer of Westminster Abbey in 2005 retiring in 2013. While at Westminster he completed a history of the selection of candidates in the 20th Century for which he was aware a PhD by the then Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, and his thesis was published as 'The Testing of Vocation' by Church House Publishing in 2013. In retirement he has published two books, 'Sceptical Christianity' in 2016 and 'Death Where Is Your Sting?' in 2021. He now lives in Salisbury.
