Philip Brebner

Educated in the US and UK, Philip Brebner received a PhD from Glasgow University for his thesis on architecture and urban design in Algeria 1830-1982. After lecturing at architecture schools in Jeddah and Porto, his first novel, A Country of Vanished Dreams, was published by Picador to critical acclaim and translated. As well as fiction he has published in academic journals and the Independent. To keep the wolf from the door, he taught creative writing for the British Council and dealt in rare rugs and textiles in Istanbul. Married with two daughters, he now divides his time between Portugal and Morocco.
