John Scheinman

John Scheinman, the last turf beat writer for The Washington Post, is a two-time Eclipse Award winner for excellence in writing about thoroughbred racing. His Eclipse Award pieces “Memories of a Master” for The Blood-Horse and "Rebel With a Cause" for the Paulick Report were named notable stories in “The Best American Sports Writing” anthology series. The comic crime noir "Bal Harbour Blues" is his first public fiction. A graduate of American University, he studied writing with Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Henry Taylor and improvisational comedy and performance at The Theatre Lab in Washington. He made his standup comedy debut in 2019 at the DC Improv Comedy Club. He began his journalism career at The Ring, “The Bible of Boxing.” Scheinman lives in Baltimore.
