Writing poetry and short stories for LIFE LESSONS: WRITINGS FROM THE OSHER LIFELONG LEARNING INSTITUTE at Florida State University, prepared Louise Rill to develop her debut novel, From Fragile Fragments. Her love of reading historical non-fiction, and her interest in women’s roles converge in this story. Her main character, a young woman in the 1940’s, struggles to break free from the stifling role her mother demands.
Louise was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, the first setting of the book, but grew up in downstate New York. She has made Tallahassee, Florida her home for the last forty years working as a teacher, and for the Florida Department of Education as a performance consultant. A proud mother of four adult children and seven grandchildren, she can be found visiting her family, writing, traveling, reading, and playing with her poodle who kept her lap warm through many edits.
