Mahamud Ugas

He studied Mathematics from 1982-1986 in his first degree at the College of Education Lafole, Somali National University, and became an Assistant Lecturer there from 1986 to 1991. In 1991, he studied Curriculum Development at Rome University and continued his studies in Debrezeit Management Institute Ethiopia in Project Cycle Management. Since 1991, he worked for the Somali Regional State in the capacity of Regional Minister of Planning and Economic Development working with the first three Somali regional Presidents from 1992 to 1995. He co-founded two non-profit making organizations named OWS and OHRC. He worked for UNDP as a Senior Field Researcher from 1995 to 2000 and WFP as Drought Monitoring Coordinator in the Eastern Block of Ethiopia from 1998-2000. He was the whistleblower of the war between Eritrea and Ethiopia from 1998 to 2000 and the severe famine prevailing in the Ogaden resulting in his exile life in Canada. He went to Canada and did his Ph.D. in Strategic Planning. He was trained in Organizational Development, Project Cycle Management, and Grant Administration at Villa Nova University and Management Institute in Newtown Square, PA, USA. Currently, he is an independent researcher and trainer. He has offices in Nairobi Kenya and Edmonton, Canada.
