Inspired by the awesome BBC/HBO TV show ‘Gentleman Jack’, I became a codebreaker for the West Yorkshire Archive Service that cares for the diaries written by the extraordinary Anne Lister, the global lesbian icon, who lived during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Being involved with the project to transcribe Anne Lister’s diaries and also reading her correpondence helped me to really get to know this remarkable woman. My 1st book, titled ‘Anne Lister, Ann Walker and me’ told the story of Anne Lister’s relationship with Ann Walker, the woman she lived with later on in her life, and my 2nd book, just recently released and titled ‘’Young Miss Lister, tells the story of the first 26 years of Anne’s life, growing up and negotiating the world as a lesbian in Georgian England.
