Wayne S Rutledge, author of the Officer of the Crown series
Retired Archaeologist, Librarian, Army Officer and College Teacher.
I was born in Tokyo, Japan and grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii. I presently reside in Ashland, Oregon, USA.
I attended the University of Hawaii and obtained a degree in Anthropology (Archaeology) and a Masters of Library Science plus a commission in the United States army. During my years at college, I was part of several martial arts groups. I spent seven and half years to gain five years of education. I would later obtain an MBA in Finance.
My first real position was in Germany as an artillery officer. I remained on active duty until the collapse of the Soviet Union and entered the Army Reserve as a Major having been a Battery Commander, Brigade Fire Support Officer, Battalion S-4 and S-2, a Forward Observer and later Fire Support Team Leader (FIST) for several armor and infantry battalions, Readiness advisor to the New York National Guard, and Instructor at the United States Army Field Artillery School at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
I worked for two years as a Personnel Manager at a hospital in New York. While there I had the unique opportunity to fire myself. I then took up a teaching position in Saudi Arabia. Then in Denver, Colorado and a later move to Dubai where I taught for many years. I taught Business, Management, IT and History at the Higher Colleges of Technology, and also at an Australian, American and British University. I later became the Operations Manager for the Institute of Applied Technology,
UAE.
My last teaching position was with Bahrain Polytechnic where I remained until the outbreak of the Arab Spring which inspired me to leave the expatriate life. During those many years in the Middle-East I traveled extensively to places I would later write about and did some ‘shovel bumming’ too.
Noted places I visited were India, Nepal, Thailand, most of western Europe, Easter Island, Tahiti, Yucatan, Turkey, Greece, Cyprus and many other places. I managed to visit most countries of the Middle-East except Yemen and Iraq.
Besides books I have designed a number of games or components to include two hundred plus computer- game scenarios for Combat Mission.
I met my British wife, Anne, in the United Arab Emirates. We had living with us for twenty three years a grumpy Arab cat called Emmy (for the Emirates gas station where she was found).
