Albrecht Rothacher

Born in 1955 in Erlangen (Germany). After graduation from grammar school in Bensheim military service as a corporal in the 12th Armored Division. Studied social sciences at universities in Berlin, Konstanz, and as a Fulbright scholar at Yale and at Bridgeport University (M.A. in sociology in 1978). Doctoral student at the LSE (Ph.D. in International Relations 1982). Research assistant at the International Christian University in Mitaka, Tokyo and at the European University Institute in Florence.

Management training at Deutsche Bank Berlin and Lecturer in Japanese Studies at Free University in Berlin.

1984-2020 senior civil servant at the European Commission Brussels, dealing with international relations oaf agriculture, Eastern enlargement, Asian strategies and last as a principal administrator with the Russian economy, as well as at the European External Action Service with diplomatic postings in Vienna, Singapore, Paris and Tokyo, lastly as Minister-Counsellor at the EU Delegation in Japan. Part-time teaching positions at the the universities of Vienna, at Chao University in Tokyo, at Munich Business School and at Singapore National University. Numerous public speaking engagement on EU policies and international issues in Europe and Asia. Currently doing free-lance work for the European Parliament and writing newspaper articles on international political, economic and historical issues.
