Jan's UK career included hotel PR, continuity announcing on ITV Central, and then presenting on BBC local radio. She left Oxfordshire in 2004 to become an expat, moving to rural Mallorca. Jan has wanted to be a novelist since the age of eleven, when she sent her novel, 'Jimmy' - handwritten in lined exercise books - to a publisher; the kindly worded rejection letter was encouraging.
When Jan arrived in Mallorca, she intended to write the contemporary romance novel she'd been thinking about for some months. But with no electricity in the house, she couldn't use her computer. Once solar power was installed, rural living - and writing articles about different aspects of Mallorca - got in the way. Spain's tough 2020 lockdown finally gave Jan time to finish 'Daughter of Deią'.
Her second novel, 'The Mallorca Cat Café' was published on July 1st, 2025. She is now working on a third novel as well as a memoir.
Jan also writes the blog Eat Drink Sleep Mallorca.
