AMY COLLEEN ROBERTSON’s passion for longarm quilting began in 2017, when her youngest child started school full time and she began teaching and sales at a local quilt shop. Almost immediately, she found herself drawn to the longarm machines. She started her longarm quilting business, Dappled Things Quilting, out of her garage in early 2018.
Her work continues to be admired and complimented by customers for its unique style and artistry. She was honored to receive the Instructor’s Choice award for her "Spirit of the Plains" quilt in the 2019 Utah Quilt Guild’s Quilt Fest.
She released her first art quilt pattern, March Hare, in early 2021. She plans to follow with a series of patterns with a children’s classical literature theme. Currently, she’s also exploring techniques for making her quilting practice more sustainable and eco-friendly. She loves quilting with thrifted clothing and textiles that she brightens up and makes unique by applying natural dyes and inks.
Amy met Dara at the 2019 Utah Quilting and Sewing Marketplace, where Dara was a teacher. Their collaboration on the books "Doodle School: A Daily Design Challenge to Up Your Free-Motion Quilting Game," and its companion notebook, "Doodle Notebook for Free-Motion Quilting: 150+ Inspirational Motifs," is one of many wonderful by-products of that meeting.
