Michael J. Hautus

Associate Professor Michael Hautus is the director of the Psychophysics Laboratory at the University of Auckland, New Zealand.

Michael’s research interests lie in the domain of empirical quantitative research, which includes quantitative assessment of the functioning of sensory systems, modelling sensory judgments, and modelling cognitive processes involved in judgment.

In 2017 he received a prestigious Marsden Grant to study how food texture relates to our sense of feeling full. This project will help in planning dietary strategies to combat obesity.

Michael has 80+ peer-reviewed publications in international journals. These span the areas of quantitative psychology, memory, sensory evaluation, pain, auditory neuroscience, mathematical modelling, and decision science.

His current projects lie in the domain of empirical quantitative research, which includes:

• Quantitative assessment of the functioning of the auditory system;

• Modelling auditory, visual, and flavour judgment;

• Modelling cognitive processes involved in memory and judgment.
