Dr. Hans Watson is a psychiatrist, psychotherapist, functional medicine expert, educator, speaker, and founder of University Elite. Throughout his career, he has worked in some of the most complex and demanding human environments imaginable—from combat operations in Afghanistan and military leadership roles to psychiatry, psychotherapy, organizational leadership, and advanced professional education.
Before becoming a physician, Dr. Watson began his military career as an enlisted artillery soldier before earning a commission as an intelligence officer. During his deployment to Afghanistan, he served as an embedded advisor living, training, and operating alongside Afghan military forces in active combat environments. These experiences shaped the philosophy that would guide the rest of his career: understanding people, navigating uncertainty, adapting to rapidly changing circumstances, and identifying the factors that determine whether individuals, teams, and organizations succeed or fail under pressure.
Following his military service, Dr. Watson attended medical school and completed residency training in psychiatry at Wright State University. His professional development expanded beyond traditional psychiatry to include advanced psychotherapy, neurobiology, leadership, organizational systems, human performance, and behavior change. Throughout his career, he has served as a psychiatrist, flight surgeon, chief medical officer, medical director, educator, consultant, and keynote speaker.
What connects these seemingly different experiences is a single question: What keeps people stuck, and what helps them move forward?
Dr. Watson's work focuses on understanding the patterns, beliefs, behaviors, and systems that prevent individuals and organizations from functioning at their highest potential. Drawing from decades of experience across military, medical, psychological, educational, and leadership environments, he helps people identify obstacles, create practical solutions, and build the skills necessary for meaningful and lasting growth.
In addition to actively treating patients and overseeing clinical systems across multiple mental health organizations, Dr. Watson develops educational programs that help healthcare professionals, leaders, and organizations better understand human behavior, performance, resilience, and change. Through University Elite, he has created advanced training programs in psychotherapy, medication management, and functional medicine designed to bridge the gap between technical knowledge and real-world implementation.
Dr. Watson is the author of multiple books focused on mental health, behavior change, burnout, trauma, and personal growth. He speaks nationally on topics including leadership, resilience, mental health, organizational effectiveness, human performance, and the practical systems that help individuals and organizations achieve higher levels of success.
His work is guided by a simple philosophy: understand what actually works, identify what is preventing progress, and translate complex ideas into practical systems that help people and organizations perform at their best.
