Alan Wareham

Alan Wareham has spent over forty years doing one thing exceptionally well: making puzzles by hand, one at a time.

His journey began in 1982, compiling brainteasers in his spare time for the British Mensa Magazine. His first book was published in 1988, and puzzle enthusiasts took to it quickly. More books followed, exploring brainteasers, logic puzzles, and the many variants of Sudoku, and they found readers far beyond the UK, reaching the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Since then, Alan's puzzles have been published in more than twenty countries and translated into several languages, bridging cultural and linguistic divides with the universal appeal of a good challenge. Alongside his books, he has contributed puzzles and quizzes to newspapers, magazines, and television, crafting the kind of conundrums that keep even the keenest minds happily occupied.

What sets Alan's work apart is that every puzzle is genuinely handcrafted, built, tested, and checked personally, never generated by software in bulk. Each one has a single solution reachable by pure logic, so solvers can trust that a fair, satisfying challenge awaits on every page.

Today Alan is the author of the Daily Puzzle Book series, which spans Sudoku, Calcudoku, Killer Sudoku, and Butterfly Sudoku across multiple difficulty levels, with a fresh puzzle for every day of the year.
