Kim Fowler

Kim Fowler is the author of All Will Be Well: A Memoir of Love and Dementia, a 2023 National Indie Excellence Awards Finalist.

Kim loves the beauty in words, art, people, and the changing seasons. Her 6th grade teacher, Mrs. Haynes, was the first person to encourage her writing by displaying her pieces in the classroom. While living in Santa Fe in the 70’s she wrote and acted in monologues for The Women’s Performance Piece, which was invited to New York by Lewis Allen, a producer of Annie. That invitation fell through, and Kim left town for San Francisco where she continued writing and performing. She often returned to the Southwest, deriving inspiration from the Pecos Wilderness and in Moab, UT. In 1999 her mother suffered a stroke. Writing this memoir helped Kim grapple with the continual changes in her mom’s behavior and in family dynamics that were caused by her mom’s progressing dementia. It also helped her to heal after her mom’s death.

Kim has written and performed theatre pieces in the West and Midwest. Her poem “Emergence in Four Parts“ was published in the online magazine Reinventing Home in December 2020. For fifteen years she sang with Threshold Singers of the East Bay, singing to people in the last stage of their lives. As a leadership coach, she listens for her clients’ dissonances and helps them tune into the harmonies of their individual and brilliant rhythms. She loves how travel cracks her open and how spending time alone in high places puts her back together again. She loves throwing parties where people tell her, “You have the most interesting friends.” She hopes to maybe one day slow down enough to have a dog own her.
