Erin Kiger

My name is Erin Kiger. I have worked in education for 17 years. I began working as a classroom teacher in 2004 and have taught K, 1st, 4th, 5th, and technology. After earning my MEd in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Technology Integration, I left the classroom to support teachers with technology integration. Since 2012, I have been working with teachers as both a technology and an instructional coach. I have also been responsible for data collection and testing coordination.

In 2018, I earned an MA in Educational Leadership with a focus on Educational Technology. I decided to pursue a degree in Leadership for the same reason I decided to pursue my degree in Educational Technology. I was excited about the potential changes in education. I saw amazing educators sharing ideas that could revolutionize the way students learn. There were conversations happening that challenged me, inspired me, and gave me hope for the future of education. I wanted to be a part of those conversations, I wanted to share those conversations, and I wanted to encourage and inspire those conversations. Both degrees supported my dream of changing education.

At the beginning of the 2020/2021 school year, I left my school and joined the educational technology world with a role at Swivl. At Swivl, I am still able to support educators through professional learning and by focusing on relationships. I still strive to have conversations that push leadership and teachers to see the potential for how dramatically different education can look in the future, especially when implementing educational technology to challenge our and our students’ thinking.

On a more personal level, I am married to Tony, the man who is the calm to my storm as I constantly juggle way too many endeavors. We welcomed our first son in July of 2018 and welcomed our second son days after the release of Balancing the EDU Life in October of 2021. Both boys bring so much joy, laughter, and light into our lives on a daily basis.

I have an unhealthy obsession with Disney, I love my toes in the sand and saltwater in my hair, I love old books because of the way they smell, and I will always pick the chocolate dessert. In the end, I’m up for a new adventure, whatever that may look like...a trip to the beach, a virtual tour of a dream vacation, a new job at a school on the opposite side of the country, or writing the book that I needed in order to feel connected in a very tough time. In the end, is anyone up for a game of Disney Monopoly?
