Professional: Paul L. Dann, a resident of Hopkinton, is the President and Chief Executive Officer of North American Family Institute a nonprofit mental health and human services agency providing care to children, youth, families and adults across eight states. He has previously served as the Executive Director of NFI North and as the Director of Children and Family Services for North American Family Institute and in various supervisory positions with Northeastern Family Institute in Peabody, Massachusetts.
Paul succeeds the founder of North American Family Institute as the organization's second President and CEO, having started with the organization more than four decades ago in a direct service role.
Paul is a nationally recognized trainer and presenter in leadership, organizational development, organizational culture, and leadership development. He has presented, for example, at the Alliance for Children and Family’s Senior Leadership Conference, COO Roundtable, Child and Family Provider Network annual conference, The International Leadership Association Global Conference on Leadership, The NH Center for Nonprofits Senior Leadership Summit, and the Tobias Leadership Conference.
He also provides consultation and coaching for nonprofit and business leaders with a focus on organizational culture, leadership development, workforce development and strategic planning.
Paul is the 2022 recipient of the New Hampshire Business Review Business Owner of the Year Award in the large nonprofit category.
In addition, Dr Dann is a published author through both John Wiley and Sons Publishing as well as Pearson Publishing. His recent book with Wiley Publishing is titled Managing and Leading Nonprofit Organizations: A Framework for Success. His book with Pearson Publishing is titled An Introduction to Human Services: Policy and Practice, 9th Edition.
Academic: Paul is a graduate of Northeastern University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Service, his graduate study was done at Boston University in Human Service Management and he has a Master’s degree and a PhD in Human and Organizational Systems from Fielding Graduate University. He is also a former research fellow with the Institute of Social Innovation in Santa Barbara, California where he conducted research in leadership development.
Paul is a core faculty member at the University of New Hampshire, teaching in the Master of Public Administration Program within the Carsey School of Public Policy. He is the former Program Director for New England College’s Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at New England Collage and teaches in their MBA and MS in Health program. He specializes in teaching leadership, organizational development, change management, strategic planning, research methods, capstone development, negotiation and conflict management and cultural diversity.
Personal Paul is also a graduate of Leadership NH Class of 2001, President of the Child and Family Provider Network of Maine, a Board Member of the Maine Association of Mental Health Services, a past Board Member of New Hampshire in Sight, past President of the Hopkinton Independent School Board of Directors, former Chair of the Board of Directors of Havenwood Heritage Heights Retirement Community, and former Vice President of the Board of Managers for the Community Provider Network. Paul can also be heard as the front man for a local blues band playing venues throughout New England.
