Armando Soliz was born and raised in Bakersfield California; he watched and experienced the turmoil and triumphs of our country in the 60s & 70s. After graduating high school, he joined the US Air Force and become a Military Working Dog Handler, Security Police K-9. During his short four years he was assigned in Louisiana, Guam, Panama Canal Zone and finally Vandenberg Air Force Base CA. He is proud to be called a “Cold War Warrior,” and a “Vietnam Era Veteran.” After his service he became a Paramedic and later a California Highway Patrol Officer. Approximately 15 years ago, an active duty member of the military asked Armando “What did the French have to do with Vietnam?” After a considerable conversation and explanation, Armando decided to write this book and has been working on it, on and off, since then.
He still lives in Bakersfield with his wife Debra and continues to work part time. He enjoys volunteering with Honor Flight of Kern County and local Veterans groups. His hobbies include photography, train travel, vintage map collecting, watching classic movies, NASCAR and is an avid disaster preparedness specialist. He likes to consider himself an “active baby boomer.”
