Jeff Laurents

About the Author

Jeff Laurents moved from London eight years ago with his

partner, Polly, to live in Kent, initially in Ramsgate, though

they will soon be moving nearer to Sandwich, to live in the

country. After a career teaching a variety of subjects

including English, History, Film and Photography, Jeff is

concentrating on his favourite interests of writing and

photography.

His often-macabre short stories combine

elements of dark fantasy, horror and humour. He has

published articles on film and photography and a short story.

Jeff has also written a novel, The Music of The Spheres,

which he refers to, (tongue in cheek), as a spoof Sci-

Fi/Fantasy/Horror/Musical/Love Story. He hopes to write

two further novels as sequels. Jeff makes no apologies for

being particularly motivated to write when he feels there is

a chance of publishing interest. His novella, The Backward

Kid, is being considered for publishing.

Jeff’s fiction is influenced by authors, including Roald

Dahl, Clive Barker, Stephen King and H.P. Lovecraft, but

he is also indebted to his background, studying and teaching

film. His stories can sometimes evoke the dark and angular

imagery of film noir, while the movies of Fritz Lang and

Alfred Hitchcock have also stimulated some of Jeff’s

approaches to his craft.

Jeff has also run a music business, sung semiprofessionally,

and currently runs his own photographybusiness specialising

in iconic scenes in Kent, photographicnimages he has

manipulated to resemble paintings more than

straight photographs.

Jeff has long been interested in transforming, rather

than recording reality, and it is this concern that influences

his writing in the direction of the edgy and weird.
