Michael Umphrey

Michael L. Umphrey has taught at the University of Montana, Salish Kootenai College and several secondary schools in Montana. His poetry and nonfiction has been published in many periodicals. He was founding director of the Montana Heritage Project, an educational initiative by the Library of Congress and the Liz Claiborne Foundation that operated in over 30 high schools. He has served as editor of Heritage Education magazine and Charkoosta News as well as poetry editor of Cutbank. He was awarded the Bertha Morton Fellowship and the Richard Hugo Scholarship at the University of Montana.
