Brian Buma

Brian Buma is a scientist, explorer, and author who cares deeply about explaining the natural world to the rest of us. Brian's career has spanned the globe, mostly touching on remote locales - he has climbed mountains in Alaska, walked the southern tip of Cape Horn, and touched the world's southernmost tree. Brian's science focuses on natural disasters, mainly wildfires, and his explorations on the edges of life in hostile terrain. Having worked with National Geographic and the Explorer's club, his work has been featured in print around the world. Brian has authored more than 50 peer reviewed scientific publications, but really enjoys writing popular press pieces and books for non-scientific audiences. His work is highly visual, blending clear writing with beautiful imagery, photography, maps, and modern visualizations.
