My passion for writing came about with a suggestion that has been presented to many people. I had made my living by speaking words not writing them. As a salesman words came easy to me as I needed to verbalize the benefits of my products in order to make a sale. Soon I found myself telling stories of my youth and some of the good and bad times I experienced. It was then I heard the suggestion that would be repeated to me many times: “You should write a book.” Eventually I did and before I knew it I had completed eight books. Seven were fiction and the eighth, The Debonair Burglar was the true story of a criminal who lived less than two miles from my home where I grew up in Omaha, Nebraska. All of these were self published, and like so many authors I could not find a credited publisher to promote my stories. But then I submitted an outline of a true story to McFarland Publishers and to my surprise after 15 years of no’s I received an enthusiastic yes! My new book The Two Charlies is now available and McFarland and I are about to enter into another contract for a second book.
