Husham Khan

Husham was previously the Head of Schools Financial Services and Governance at Birmingham City Council, Europe’s largest Local Authority. He has over 25 years experience across 5 local authorities and 3 MATs as a SBL and was in the first cohort to successfully complete the CSBM and DSBM programmes. Husham is also an advisor to the ABBLed board (Association of BAME Business Leaders in Education).

He published the best-selling book ‘Financial Intelligence for School Business Leaders’ which is in the top 100 selling books on Amazon.’ As one of the few BAME SBLs in the profession Husham’s career path has ranged from CFO in Academy Trusts to Chief Executive and Director of Learning of two school improvement companies.

In 2003 Husham developed the financial training framework for all schools in Birmingham, which to this day, still runs and has trained thousands of SBMs, HTs and governors.

He also developed and led on the National Executive Leaders Programme in 2015 which brought together SBLs and CEOs under one roof for the first time, training them simultaneously, and raising the status of the SBL profession within MATs. Husham has been instrumental in raising the profile of SBLs including being the West Midlands SBL advocate for the NCTL in leading the regional strategy and he was also part of the working group which developed the SLE role and SFVS framework.
