I wrote my first story when I was five. I submitted it to Fantasy & Science Fiction Magazine. They rejected it. That was only the first of many rejection slips I have picked up over the years. In high school, I won a pair of shoes in a writing contest. The contest was sponsored by a radio station. Paul Revere and the Raiders had just released their new song 'Kicks'. The contest was to write about how you get your kicks. I wrote the winning poem. It was about racking up leaves on an autumn day and then jumping into the pile. My only other claim to fame was when an article I wrote was published and later reprinted in a computer magazine. It was a review of the game 'The Creature That Ate Sheboygan'. My review was about how much fun it was to eat the IRS building.
After high school, I wanted to attend Northwestern University and be a journalist. Not able to do so, I joined the Navy. While in the Navy, I completed my four years of service honorably with two tours of Vietnam. After the Navy, I was tested for my aptitude and skills and was told I should be a librarian. Instead I went to college and earned a degree in business administration. I became a CPA after passing all parts of the CPA exam in my first sitting. After scoring in the 98th percentile on the GMAT, I earned an MBA in finance.
My business career has consisted of CFO positions for a variety of businesses on the west coast. Currently I am the Chief Financial Officer for a Native American tribe located in Washington state. While past retirement age, I am having too much fun to stop.
'Capping S'ers' is the first novel I have completed. It is the first book in the Star Universe, a science fiction modern day alternate history. I have plans for at least another three books in the series. I have self-published this book because I couldn't find an agent to represent me. I was told the book was too original.
I am donating 50% of all proceeds I receive from 'Capping S'ers' to suicide prevention and the Joey Harris Arts Scholarship Fund. Suicide is a problem we can not continue to ignore.
