Tariq Khan

I was born in North West Pakistan on March 18, 1949. I had a happy childhood. My father was an Officer in the Armored Corps of the Pakistan Army, so my early childhood was spent on Military bases. My mother was particularly concerned about my schooling, so she put me in a famous boarding school run by Catholic missionaries in the hills of North West Pakistan. It was a beautiful place to be, and Pakistan was a different country from what it is today. My dad was very keen for me to become a doctor, and so I had to put in some hard study to live up to his aspirations, and became a doctor. I was keen to become a surgeon after that, and felt the best training and qualifications I could get for that would be from the UK. So, I travelled to the UK, and some more hard work and studies followed, and I became an Orthopedic Surgeon. After that, I worked and lived in Riyadh, in Saudi Arabia, then UAE in the beautiful city of Fujairah, in Islamabad in Pakistan. I decided to move to Canada towards the end of my career and retired in Vancouver Canada.

I had always had a yearning for writing, from my school days. Without really trying, I would get good marks in English and particularly excelled in writing essays. In Canada, many of my patients suggested that I write a book of my travels and experiences, and that is how I finally wrote my memoirs.
