John Rhodes grew up in Wrangell, Alaska and joined the Navy in 1967. After two cruises on destroyers to the Tonkin Gulf of Vietnam, he was honorably discharged in 1970. In 1979, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at the University of Idaho.
John retired in 2013 after working thirty-four years for the Washington State Department of Transportation. During that time John wrote many articles for sport magazines. After retiring, he started writing novels, always including veterans as the main characters.
He is married to his sweetheart of 37 years, Val, and they reside in Aberdeen, Washington.
