Steven M. Smith is the author of the poetry collection Strongman Contest (Kelsay Books, 2021). He was born in Syracuse, New York. He was raised in a rural area a few miles north of the Village of Central Square, New York. He earned an MA from Binghamton University and a BA from the State University of New York at Oswego. He taught first-year writing as well as reading and study skills for many years at the State University of New York at Oswego, where he retired as director of the college’s Writing Center. His poetry has appeared in publications such as Rattle, The Worcester Review, Ibbetson Street Press, Better Than Starbucks, Offcourse, Poetrybay, The River, The American Journal of Poetry, 3rd Wednesday, The Writing Disorder, Book of Matches, Hole in the Head Review, The Big Windows Review, Choeofpleirn Press, Mudfish, and Action, Spectacle. He lives with his wife in North Syracuse, New York.
