He has written many up-close-and-personal boating and adventure books about encountering weather in all forms, from tranquil nights at anchor behind an island or fighting for survival in the "storm of the century" or detailing how a lone boater in a homemade 10-foot plywood boat fought his way through a North Atlantic storm. Marlin is a former newsman who has served with various publications ranging from the Stars and Stripes Newspaper (European Edition) to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, where he was the award-winning editor of the Tribune's Sunday Magazine. A past president of the Minnesota Press Club, he is a member of the Author's Guild and Boating Writers International.
