I am a professor of Philosophy and Communication Studies at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. I write formal academic stuff as well as happier and lighter stuff on popular culture. I have edited a lot of books and contributed to many more. I spend a lot of time in Europe these days, which I find inspiring for writing. I am always happy to hear from readers, and, contrary to what some say, I don't mind criticism. But I don't suffer fools gladly, and sometimes that can seem the same as being thin-skinned.
