IN 1999, Patrick Geddes cofounded Aperio Group, an equity asset management firm that eventually grew to $42 billion in assets and a hundred employees by the end of 2020.
Patrick served as Aperio’s Chief Investment Officer from 1999 to 2014 and then as the firm’s only CEO thereafter. Prior to starting Aperio, Patrick had been the first Research Director and then first CFO at Morningstar.
Before Morningstar, he worked as a financial analyst at Amoco (now part of BP) where he learned the after-tax cash flow modeling techniques commonly used within corporations but rarely seen in the investment world (much to his bafflement given how much money it can save).
Patrick taught graduate-level portfolio theory and advanced corporate finance for many years at the University of California, Berkeley, Extension. He has also had academic and practitioner articles published in the Financial Analysts Journal, the Journal of Investment Management, the Journal of Investment Consulting, and Investments & Wealth Monitor.
