Kara Newingham

Kara Garofas Newingham is originally from the river town of Helena-West Helena, Arkansas. Influencing her work are the complexities of life in The Delta, mysteries of the mighty Mississippi River, and tales that rise from the epicenter of the blues.

She has resided in Louisiana for the past 19 years. Reflected in her writings, she has been able to captivate readers by sharing her experiences while living in the melting pot of New Orleans, the heart of Cajun Country, and her landing in the heel of the Louisiana boot.

Her first collection, Gone, teeters between fractured relationships, love in the presence of death, ghastly historical events, and words from locked away souls.

Kara is a Licensed Professional Counselor and holds degrees from Arkansas State University and the University of New Orleans.
