Xiaochen Su

Xiaochen Su, Ph.D., is a naturalized US citizen from San Diego, California. After spending his childhood between China and Japan, he migrated with his parents to the US at the age of 12. He received his bachelor’s degree from Yale University, a master’s degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and completed his doctoral studies at the University of Tokyo. He has also worked in East and Southeast Asia, East Africa, and Europe, across different industries including NGOs, e-commerce, consulting, and academia. He currently resides in Malta, where he works for a college admissions consultancy firm after a stint at a business intelligence firm in Japan.

Xiaochen is an avid writer for publications around the world, with dozens of op-ed articles appearing in outlets including the Diplomat, the Japan Times, the Asia Times, the News Lens, the Asia Sentinel, Metropolis Japan, and African Liberty, among others. His fiction has appeared in the Scarlet Leaf Review, Socjeta Literary Review, and Questions magazine, among others. Xiaochen has also published multiple research papers, some of which won prizes from organizations such as the Japan Foreign Trade Council.

In his free time, Xiaochen likes to backpack around the world. So far, he has been in more than 1,400 cities and towns in more than 100 countries. He would like to continue visiting new destinations that he has yet to visit, with the Middle East, the Pacific Islands, and western Africa as the current focuses.
