William Reed

Coming to Japan in 1972 at the age of 20, I began a lifelong journey to explore and master Japanese Culture through the language and the traditional Arts of Japan, particularly Calligraphy (Shodo), Aikido, and Iaido. The landmarks of my learning have been a series of books, including several number one bestsellers in Japanese, but my dream has been to share my journey in English with people who do not have access to the language or the country. Being an author gives you an identity, and requires you to assume an identity in the process. Other landmarks including ranking and recognition, such as becoming 10th-dan in Shodo and Vice-Chairman of the Japan Calligraphy Education Association, 8th-dan in Aikido, 2nd-dan in Iaido, and numerous appearances on Japanese national television, documentaries, radio, and professorship teaching Japanese Culture at the International College of Liberal Arts (iCLA) near Mt Fuji. Books have always been a driving force in my own learning, leading me to Japan at a young age, to study for decades under Masters of the Arts whom I met first through their books, and now in a position to share that learning by having my long journey become your short cut to transformation and self-mastery. I draw on the Wisdom and Disciplines of Samurai Culture applied in a contemporary context…without the barriers of language, time, accessibility, guidance, or gender. My website is http://www.samurai-walk.com, from which you can also connect with me on Social Media.
