Why have I written this book? Firstly, because it was great fun, and writing a book was something I had always dreamed of doing. What held me back? Confidence for one, and an inability to plot, the other.

So, what changed?

Well, I was in a shop in the beautiful town of Kilkenny, when for the umpteenth time I was asked, “So what made you move to Ireland?”

A few minutes later, I was in the car driving back home to Co. Longford when a lightbulb came on.
