Mary Trainer

Mary Trainer has been writing about B. C.'s people, places and history for more than 50 years. Her articles have appeared in a wide range of magazines and newspapers including Beautiful BC, BC Woman, BC Outdoors, SFU Alumni Journal, The Vancouver Province, North of 50, and the Okanagan Historical Society annual reports.

In honour of the RCMP Centennial in 1973, Mary self-published A History of Policing in Burnaby for the Burnaby Detatchment of the RCMP.

In the 1970s, Mary and co-publishers Rick Antonson and Brian Antonson owned Nunaga Publishing (later known as Antonson Publishing) that produced more than two dozen books. Later, Mary, Rick and Brian co-authored Whistle Posts West: Railway Tales from British Columbia, Alberta and Yukon (Heritage House, 2015), and Slumach's Gold: In Search of a Legend (Heritage House, 2007). The latter was preceded by the co-authors' 1972 edition, Slumach's Gold: In Search of a Legend under the imprint: In Search of a Legend.

Mary has been commissioned to write two books: Tales of a BC Trucker (for Bert Wise; self-published 1988), and The Edge of the Centre: Celebrating Naramata Centre (Wood Lake Books, 2009)

In 2018 she self-published Trout Creek: Celebrating History, Land and Neighbourhood. (Available at the Summerland Museum and the Okanagan Regional Library.)

Mary is an enthusiastic crossword puzzle solver and creator. Her puzzles have appeared in SFU, UMan and UBC Alumni Journals as well as Books in Canada magazine.
