Janice Abernethy

I’m a retired fifth-grade teacher, proud mom of three, grandma to Ike and Penny, and wife to my high school sweetheart, Sam—we’ve been adventuring together for over 45 years. I grew up in the small town of Mars, Pennsylvania, surrounded by my parents and five lively brothers. These days, when Sam and I aren’t exploring the country in our RV, we’re soaking up the peace and joy of our 60-acre farm, home to three dogs, three horses, five miniature horses, two cats, and one very wise tortoise.

I’ve always been drawn to creativity and connection. I spend my time writing, illustrating, painting, filming, 3D printing, and crafting with my Cricut—often inspired by the animals and nature that surround me. I’m a regular at Keystone Safari Park and love visiting zoos and wildlife sanctuaries across the country. Conservation is close to my heart, and I’m a passionate supporter of efforts to protect endangered species and preserve our national and state parks.

If you haven’t guessed yet—I absolutely love animals and nature. My books are a celebration of that love, blending storytelling, science, and whimsy to spark curiosity in children and families. Welcome to my world!
