John Ekstedt

My wife Kay and I appear in the profile picture together since none of my work could have been accomplished without her willing participation and editorial expertise. As young adults, we were both affected by and involved in the civil rights movement of the '60s. In 1966, we accepted an assignment with the Lutheran Church in Canada to develop a program for work within indigenous communities. We were commissioned to work with Canadian governments and other agencies in support of this assignment. This expanded into research and investigations on prison and public education programs as they relate to minority populations. Over time, we accepted formal positions within government and academic institutions to do practical work and consultation on these matters.

I have spent six years as a member of the United States Coast Guard, ten years as a Lutheran cleric, twelve years as a government administrator, and seventeen years as a university teacher and researcher.
