Mark E Welch

Mark E. Welch has spent a lifetime following stories—first as a young reader on the coast of Maine, and later as a novelist drawn to mystery, history, humor, and the unexpected turns that make fiction memorable. Born in 1964, Welch grew up inspired by the clear, vivid storytelling of E.B. White, Mark Twain, and Ernest Hemingway, writers whose influence helped shape his own love of language and narrative.

That early passion grew into a wide-ranging creative life that includes reading, writing, and music. Welch is the author of the children’s book Kiwa’s Story, the touching adventure of a young dolphin searching for her lost mother, along with twelve novels and several short stories that reflect his curiosity, imagination, and affection for characters who do not always follow the expected path.

His work moves easily across genres, from the eerie atmosphere of A Haunting on Cape Neddick to the historical echoes of Spirits & Tales. More recently, readers have been introduced to Detective Charles W. Radcliff III, a well-meaning but bungling investigator whose unorthodox methods somehow manage to uncover the truth—even when he appears least likely to find it. With more than 14 novels, novellas, and short stories published in North America and Europe, Mark E. Welch has spent years pursuing his passion for storytelling. His work has gained international attention and has been featured in South Florida news.

Today, Welch lives in the coastal region of Viana do Castelo, Portugal, in the historic district of Montedor with his wife, Eva, and their two Boxer dogs, Thor and True Blue. Surrounded by the sea, history, and the quiet inspiration of daily life, he continues to write stories meant to entertain, surprise, and invite readers to keep turning the page.
