PC Sarkar, former Principal Scientist, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Govt. of India, a Ph.D in organic chemistry, is an alumnus of St Francis' College, Lucknow, Lucknow Christian College and Lucknow University.
In addition to a specialized book on chemistry and about a hundred research publications in national and international journals pertaining to his scientific profession, Dr Sarkar has to his credit, a series of articles on Lucknow, which appeared in the Heritage Page of the Lucknow Tribune during 2013-14. He is active in several fora related to the conservation of tangible / intangible heritage, particularly related to Lucknow. An avid traveler, he has criss-crossed India, and as on date, visited 17 foreign countries, in a bid to fulfill his passion. His first book, "LUCKNOW - BUILDINGS, BEGUMS AND THE BRITISH" published in 2015, detailed hitherto unknown aspects of Lucknow's lost heritage. The second, revised edition of this book was launched in 2025.
His second book, "LUCKNOW - ODE TO A CITY" was released in December 2021 and his third book, "ABODE OF FAIRIES - LUCKNOW'S PARIKHANA" was published in May 2022. His book, "LUCKNOW CHRONICLES: MEMORIES, MUSINGS, MYTHS" focusing on the forgotten heritage of Lucknow, was formally launched in September 2023.
"COLONIAL LUCKNOW: BURRA SAHIB AND CHOTA HAZRY," launched in December 2024, represents Dr. Sarkar's single-minded determination to document the often overlooked impact of colonial rule in the evolution of Lucknow during 1856 - 1947.
"THE SUPERNATURAL - HAUNTING TALES OF LUCKNOW" is a work of historical fiction from the pen of Dr Sarkar (2025), listing another aspect of Lucknow's lost heritage - more specifically, the ghost stories associated with the city, which continues to captivate audiences of all ages.
At present, Dr. Sarkar has a regular weekly column named "Awadh Odyssey" in the Sunday issue of the Hindustan Times, Lucknow, where he continues to present vignettes of information on Lucknow's lost heritage for his readers.
