Having suffered a total collapse of his hearing when he was 30, the author waiting 35 years to receive bilateral cochlear implants. He went from zero speech comprehension to 85% with rehabilitation. Since that time, he has mentored or assisted hundreds of candidates out of the isolation of deafness into the world of sound.

His website, cochlearimplantbasics.com is a series of podcast interviews (with transcripts) with candidates, surgeons, audiologists, and other professionals.

He currently spends full time as a volunteer, performing outreach via social media seeking those suffering from the effects of severe hearing loss and assisting them to find solutions where possible.
