Frances Peck

Frances Peck wrote fiction and poetry until her early twenties, when the realities of adulthood and rent steered her to a career as a ghostwriter, editor, and teacher. Now she’s making things up again. THE BROKEN PLACES, her debut novel about a major earthquake rocking Vancouver, has been called a “beautifully layered and compelling” story with “nuanced, stunning characters.” It was a Globe and Mail best book of 2022 and a finalist for the Rakuten Kobo Emerging Writer Prize.

Frances's second novel, UNCONTROLLED FLIGHT, about the investigation into the death of a firefighting pilot, came out in September 2023 and made best-of-the-year lists at 49th Shelf and Consumed by Ink. The Vancouver Sun said the novel “soars with action, human drama.”

Frances lives, writes, reads, and hikes in North Vancouver, British Columbia, in the land of impending earthquakes and increasing wildfires.
