Dr. Cornell Thomas has served as a band director, assistant principal, and principal with the Dallas Independent School District. In addition, he served as an assistant professor, associate professor and department chair, and full professor at Texas Christian University, becoming the first African American to be appointed a full professor. After five years as Special Assistant to the Chancellor for Diversity and Community at TCU, he served as System Vice President for Institutional Diversity at Oklahoma State University, followed by the presidency at Jarvis Christian College.
Cornell has had numerous accomplishments, including the establishment of the Community Scholar’s Program at TCU, the national award winning Diversity Program and website at Oklahoma Sate University, and moving Jarvis Christian College from near financial ruin of negative budgets for over eight consecutive years to over a million dollar surplus in just three years.
His retired in 2020 at TCU as a Professor for Higher Education Administration, Principal Mentor for the Fort Worth Independent School District, and Educational Consultant for the Tom Joyner Foundation.
Cornell has nearly one hundred refereed publications, book chapters, editorships, and books. His writings focus on issue related to educating the disenfranchised, personal identity and self empowerment, social justice, personal depression, and love after sixty.
