My name is Gary E. Moore. I am a poet, an author, and, most importantly, a Dad; born and raised in Central Illinois, residing now in the Chicago area.
My most recent work, Songs For The Cleveland Avenue Warriors: Poems from the Past, Present and Future, was just released through creativeonionpress, an independent, woman-owned press, and my first full length novel and a short story collection are forthcoming.
I also recently published and released What Daddy Do! and What Mommy Do! the first books in What We Do! The Children's Book Series.
Songs For The Cleveland Avenue Warriors is an in-depth retrospective of the beauty inherent in the most unlikely of places and how hope takes root and grows there, in spite of outside expectations; while What We Do! The Children's Book Series, ideal for pre-K-2nd grade students, is meant to highlight and celebrate the strength of familial bonds as presented through joyfully diverse imagery.
Carefully crafted with the help of a team of educators, the book series serves as an alternative to the negative, and often traumatic, subject matter prevalent in the literature marketed towards African-Americans and other minorities.
Each of these works represents a passion of mine, the exploration of the world around me through the written word and celebrating and acknowledging the people and places that inspired and influenced me; people and places that aren't normally associated with such beauty and art.
As a former educator, it is my greatest intention to share these passions, for their obvious artistic value and interest, but also, and most importantly, to create a positive dialogue; instigating thoughtful conversation around questions of diverse cultural appreciation.
What Daddy Do! and What Mommy Do!, Books I and II in the What We Do Children's Book Series, are a great way to introduce these conversations in an innocent, fun-filled, non-intrusive manner.
