Esther Tyson

Esther Tyson is known as a transformational leader in education in Jamaica. She transformed Ardenne High School, her alma mater, when she led that school in the first decade of the 21st Century from a school of second choice to become one of the high schools in greatest demand in Jamaica. She was later asked by the Ministry of Education to serve as Interim Principal at Tarrant High School. During the year, 2013-2014, that she led the school, she implemented changes in curriculum, administrative processes and cultural practices. These changes resulted in the school being perceived in a more positive light in the community and society. Esther also worked as a School Improvement Coach with the Jamaica National iLead Programme.

As an Independent Education Consultant, Esther has been helping to build capacity in schools by offering mentorship, coaching and professional development training to school leaders. A number of schools have benefitted from her expertise. Esther is a trained inspector with the National Education Inspectorate, and an Assessor with the National College of Educational Leadership. She is also an author, having done a thematic compilation of the articles she wrote as a journalist for The Gleaner into a book, ‘Ah Suh Me See It, Ah Suh Me Say It,’ (Commentary on Educational and Social Issues in Jamaica.)
