Aly Mir

Since the 1980s, Aly Mir has travelled regularly to Europe to see football, attending over 125 matches outside the UK, and his books are products of those experiences. Aly’s first book 'Ten Big Ears: An Alternative Account of FC Barcelona in Europe', was published by Pitch Publishing in 2022. The book owes its title to Aly attending all five of Barcelona’s European Cup/Champions League final victories, an extremely rare achievement.

Aly’s second book, 'Yodel When You’re Winning: Football and the Alps', is the first English language account of football in all eight countries of the Alpine region (Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Slovenia and Switzerland). The book presents an eyewitness account of 25 matches in the Alps, including women’s, youth and veterans’ games. Above all, 'Yodel When You’re Winning' is about seeing the beautiful game in beautiful places. The book was published by Pitch Publishing in July 2025.
