Winner of the Gold Royal Palm Literary Award (RPLA) in Historical fiction for 2023 and 2025, Frank A. Mason also won the Florida Writers Association (FWA) Book of the Year Award. The Book of the Year is the grand prize each year and is the highest award from the Florida Writers Association. Frank A. Mason is the pen name for author Bob Amason, Ph.D.

A retired USAF Lieutenant Colonel, Bob Amason was a college professor for 25 years. As an officer in the USAF, Bob flew B-52s during the Cold War, was a flying training instructor, and directed high-level staff organizations for over 22 years of his early adult life. Dr. Bob Amason earned a Ph.D. from the nation’s number-one public institution and mentored hundreds of doctoral students at three respected higher education institutions.

Winner of the 2025 RPLA Gold and FWA Book of the Year for 2025, Mason's novel, "La Florida: Flower of the Bitter Orange," captures how difficult life was on the Florida frontier during the American Revolution. Bob Amason, PhD, is a life member of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), where he is President of his local chapter. He is a member of the board of the National SAR Museum and serves as Vice Chairman of the Collections Management Subcommittee.

He lives in Florida with his wife, who is a university professor and author of a forthcoming series of children’s books. They share three successful adult children.
