John Brokaar

Born of a working-class family in the Netherlands in 1964, John and his family emigrated to South Africa in 1976. Completing high school but uncertain as to what to do with life, he enlisted in the military for seven years, during which he served in South Arica’s war in Angola. Disillusioned at its end – as is so typical of such – John went sailing. Making landfall in the West Indies, on the island of St Maarten, he started a business that specialized in commercial diving, salvage and marine construction. After a fruitful period of about 14 years, which included starting a family, it was opted to explore new horizons. Returning to South Africa with his wife and two sons, they established a sustainable nature reserve and a retreat facility. As fate would have it, following another period of 14 years, they chose to uproot, leaving a life of status and certainty, this time moving to Mediterranean Europe, where they now live in Croatia.

“The Way of the Pilgrim” series followed by "The Possession of Man" were written over a period spanning many years. It began when John observed the bizarre but inexplicably peculiar and mechanical nature of contemporary human existence wherever he went. His focus became especially directed at the one- and two-dimensional behaviour of those who embody the greater part of humanity and comprise the equally suggestible followers and leaders of others.

His writings are based on studies across many a topic, discipline and practice, combined by his observations and experiences across the widest of spectrums, ranging from the camaraderie and waste of war to the magical mystery of Great Nature; from the greed and ignorance of boardrooms to the generous and selfless guidance of wise and holy ones; from acknowledging the science of psychology and sociology to understanding their impacts on history, mythology and cosmology; from the review of scripture, spirituality and the occult, to realizing their influence on politics, geopolitics and economics; from the journeys through deep inner meditative and trance-based solitude to those surrounded and supported by a loving family.

Through these many teachings, he observed how the same patterns and cycles were witnessed in all surrounds, throughout all of humankind, and how they cannot but eternally perpetuate. Through his writings, his visions and understandings of the subject matter evolved, and he saw how these had interwoven within them, both physical and metaphysical elements, and yet observable only in humankind. He learnt then that when these ‘elements’ were intentionally harmoniously merged through individual truth and awareness, a certain veritable magic was made manifest, one that made all that was seemed real and fundamental entirely illusory.

As time waits for no one, and as none can free another from the psychic prison of their illusory reality – seeing that these can only be accomplished by the willing, aware and sincere self, to the self – the author’s sole purpose in these writings is to offer within them, timeless insights for seekers among present and future generations, that may provide them with formulas by which to attain answers.
